From BDC friend and Board Member Sebastian Junger:
“My friends –
As you may know, I started a non-profit called Reporters Instructed in Saving Colleagues, which trains freelance journalists in battlefield medicine. I did this in reaction to the death of my good friend and colleague Tim Hetherington, who lost his life covering combat in the Libyan city of Misrata a year and a half ago. Please visit our website, www.risctraining.org, to find out more.
We had our first very successful training session last April, and now we are raising money for the next several sessions. Our near-term goal is to train 125 freelance combat journalists by the end of next year, but we hope to eventually provide medical training to the entire freelance community. EVEN FIFTY DOLLARS WILL HELP US TREMENDOUSLY.
The money you donate will help pay for medical kits, lodging and a three day intensive course for our students. Tim might well have been saved by the kind of basic battlefield medicine that we are providing…please go to our website and help us prevent the next tragedy. Thank you so much for your generosity.
