Once known as “The Queen City” for its industrial and cultural prominence, Cumberland, Maryland, has faced economic decline in recent decades. Yet amidst the struggles, an unlikely and vibrant story of resilience has emerged: the local queer community has cultivated a thriving drag scene and built the largest Pride movement in Appalachia, defying conservative norms and ongoing backlash against LGBTQ identities in rural America.

The Queens of Queen City is a powerful documentary project by Michael O. Snyder that examines the courage, risks, and social impact of expressing LGBTQ identities in a region defined by Bible Belt conservatism and Rust Belt grit.

Join Snyder for a presentation and Q&A on this long-term project, which has garnered widespread recognition for its thoughtful exploration of identity, community, and resilience in the face of adversity.
