13 Stories of War – Ukraine highlights the work of Ukrainian photographers who have documented the devastating war with Russia since the full-scale invasion of 2022. Through their powerful images, the book captures the resilience and humanity of those impacted by war, offering an intimate and diverse perspective on a nation enduring immense challenges.
Join co-editor and photographer Emine Ziyatdinova in conversation with photographer Alan Chin (@alanschin) for a discussion on the making of the book, its contributors, and the role of photography in times of conflict. The event will conclude with an audience Q&A.
The book features work from an incredible roster of Ukrainian photographers, including Julia Kochetova, Yana Kononova, Evgeniy Maloletka, Lisa Bukreyeva, Roman Pashkovskiy, Alena Grom, Sergii Polezhaka, Dmytro Kozatskyi, Sasha Kurmaz, Alexander Glyadyelov, Olia Koval, Viacheslav Ratynskyi, and Roman Bordun.

About the Speakers:
Emine Ziyatdinova is a Crimean Tatar documentary photographer and co-founder of the NGO Ukrainian Warchive, a digital photo archive documenting the Russo-Ukrainian war. Her work has been supported by a Fulbright Scholarship and a Magnum Foundation Emergency Fund Fellowship, and her projects have been exhibited in Ukraine and internationally.

Alan Chin is a renowned photographer and educator with a career spanning over two decades, covering conflicts and social change worldwide, including in Ukraine. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Foreign Policy, and more, and is held in the collections of MoMA and the Detroit Institute of Arts. Alan is also a co-founder of Jet Age Books, a publisher of photography books, and an adjunct professor at Columbia University and The New School.
