“Negra” delves into the lives of five Black women in Mexico, shedding light on racism, resistance, and the journey towards self-acceptance. Join us for a Zoom panel discussion post-screening with director Medhin Tewolde Serrano and Piragua Art Space founder, David Soto (aka DāSo), facilitated by Caza Fuego.

Medhin Tewolde Serrano:
An Eritrean-Mexican filmmaker from Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Medhin has lived in Chiapas for over a decade. She is dedicated to bringing the stories of marginalized communities to light through documentary filmmaking.

David Soto (aka DāSo):
Singer/songwriter David Soto, also known as DāSo, began his musical journey performing with his mother in Grupo Cemí. Growing up in Loisaida, NYC, he was shaped by mentors like María Hernández and Tato Laviera and honed his craft in iconic spaces like the Nuyorican Poets Café. As a community organizer and founder of DASO Entertainment, he established the New Village Music Festival and Piragua Art Space, creating platforms for arts, culture, and wellness. @dasomonster
