Actively engaged in police meetings, rallies, and television appearances, Marty has become a powerful voice for a historically marginalized community. This documentary delves into Marty’s life, sharing anecdotes that reveal his deep love for the South Bronx and his unwavering commitment to its progress.
Following the screening, participate in a Q&A with director Giacomo Francia and editor Cynthia Rivera to explore the making of this impactful film and discuss the stories behind Marty’s advocacy.
Giacomo Francia is a documentary filmmaker and educator whose work stems from his deep engagement with communities. Francia’s storytelling captures the essence of people and places through narratives shaped by meaningful encounters. His films have been featured on platforms like NYT Op-Docs, PBS-Thirteen, and Vice World News, as well as at prominent venues such as the Guggenheim Museum, The Metrograph, and IFC Center.
Cynthia Rivera is a multidisciplinary artist and the Exhibition Manager at the Bronx Documentary Center (BDC) since 2015. In addition to curating exhibitions, she is a writer, filmmaker, and photographer. Rivera is also a co-founder of BLOQUE, a media and design collective. Originally from Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Rivera has lived in The Bronx since 2015. Her work examines themes of grief, memory, and close relationships through non-fiction and poetry.
