Ken Light | American Stories: 1969-1995 showcases three decades of work by celebrated documentary photographer Ken Light, capturing pivotal moments in American history from 1969 to 1995. Through striking black-and-white imagery, Light sheds light on social issues, human rights, and the lives of often-overlooked communities. This powerful exhibition offers a deep and nuanced look at the struggles, resilience, and stories that defined this era.

The exhibition features work from Light’s twelve critically acclaimed books, including Report to the Shareholders, Course of the Empire, Midnight La Frontera, What’s Going On? 1969-1974, Valley of Shadows and Dreams, Coal Hollow, Delta Time, Texas Death Row, To The Promised Land, and With These Hands.

Ken Light (@kenlight_photo_) has spent over 50 years documenting the social landscape of America. His work has been published in twelve monographs and exhibited in over 230 shows worldwide, including solo exhibitions at the International Center for Photography (NYC), Oakland Museum of California, and Visa pour l’Image in Perpignan, France.

Light is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, and the Dorothea Lange Fellowship. His photography has appeared in leading magazines, newspapers, and media outlets globally. In addition to his photographic work, Light has authored Witness in Our Time: Lives of Working Documentary Photographers and Picturing Resistance. He currently serves as the Reva and David Logan Professor of Photojournalism at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
