For the past decade, Iranian photographer Kimia Rahgozar has focused her camera on the common points between people, regardless of nationality, culture, and sex. For her debut US pop-up exhibition of PHOTOSOPHY, Kimia will be at the BDC for a week, using a large format camera and instant film to create portraits of gallery visitors, creating a bridge between communities in Iran and the Bronx.
“For the purposes of definition, I would describe Kimia Rahgozar's Photosophy as an interdisciplinary approach to Photography that combines Photography, Sociology and post-mod Performance Art. In practice, Photosophy strikes me as more urgent, more whimsical, wittier and far more artful than such a definition allows. In Sartrean terms, it's Photographie Engagé! It reaches through the lens to touch ordinary people's lives.” - Steve Hayes-Pollard, PhD
